The history and the artistic masterpieces of a grand church, and an extraordinary collection of works of art: from medieval architecture, from the sculptures by Benedetto Antelami, to the colours of Renaissance and Mannerism. The cathedral was consecrated in 1106, and is one of the most important examples of Romanic architecture in Italy. Inside, elaborate Medieval capitals and works, but also an explosion of colours from the 16th century, in the frescoes that cover the central nave and the dome, a superb invention of the genius of the painter Antonio Allegri, better known as Il Correggio.
