Botticelli as never seen before: the narrator of the voyage made by Dante from the “gloomy wood” to the pits of hell, from the mountain of Purgatory to the light of Paradise. The most beautiful illustrations of the poem are a series of one hundred drawings made by the Florentine artist at the end of the 15th century. We will look at the drawings but also at some of Botticelli’s most renown works – from the Allegory of Spring to the Birth of Venus, from Pallas and the Centaur to the Calumny of Apelles – works that are also reference for the works of other artists. The documentary portrays a city, Florence, swept by transformation, and the protagonists of this epoch, from Lorenzo the Magnificent to Leonardo da Vinci.
